Workshop: Using Tests, Quizzes, and Surveys in Blackboard Learn
In this hands-on Blackboard Learn workshop you will learn how to create online tests, quizzes, and surveys and learn how to use them effectively within your BbLearn course. You will also learn how to view quiz results, grade, and provide student feedback online or set your quiz to grade and provide feedback automatically.
Workshop: Creating and Managing Groups in Blackboard Learn
You will learn how to create and effectively manage multiple small groups and discussions in this workshop. Online small groups offer flexibility -- enabling students with varied schedules and physical locations to easily collaborate and communicate. Students may discuss articles, collaborate on projects, provide peer feedback, and even study together online.

Workshop: Communicating with Students in Blackboard Learn
In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn how to facilitate communication between you, your students, and among students. We will explore Bb Learn's Messages, Send Email, Announcements, and Group features in a course shell.
Workshop: Capture a Lecture and/or "Flip" a Class with Panopto
Panopto offers a rich set of features for both faculty and students that allows classroom recordings and gives instructors the ability to create rich media resources right from their desks. You may use Pantopo to "flip" your classes so that passive learning (listening to lectures) is done online and active learning (solving problems) is done in class.

Workshop: Designing Your Course to Promote Student Success in Blackboard Learn
This workshop will focus on the simple design tricks for your Blackboard Learn course to help your students navigate your course and stay organized. You will also learn how to track the progress of your students in Grade Center using smart views and color coding. You will see a demonstration and become familiar with the logistics of Retention Center.

Conference: University Teaching Seminar
New faculty and teaching assistants are invited to the Iowa State Memorial Union on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 for two sessions (morning and afternoon) of workshops and presentations dedicated to teaching led by the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT).
Laboratory Safety Orientation for grad students
This session is highly recommended for graduate students who will be working in laboratories this year. It's also offered Aug. 20 and 21; attend once. Registration requested.

The COS Pivot searchable database is a tool used by researchers to broaden their funding portfolio and increase their interdisciplinary opportunities. In this hands-on training, you will learn how to identify and connect with public and private funding opportunities. The training is free, but registration is required.
