Fused Glass Class
Make a pendant and earrings by etching and fusing dichroic glass. Learn the use of tools, etching techniques and proper measuring and cutting of glass.
Black & White Digital Photography Class
This is a 4 week course on Wednesdays beginning June 3, June 10, June 17, and 24 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. This course builds on the technical foundations of digital photography, expanding practical skills while also fostering your aesthetic awareness and vision as a photographer.
Sassy Embroidery Workshop
Let's add some sass to traditional embroidery designs! Get out your Urban Dictionary, write out your favorite song lyrics, recite a line from a movie, or find something trending on twitter. We will have design/text ideas, or bring in your own and learn a couple basic stitches. Finished pieces can be hung in the provided hoops or stitched onto another project.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Father's Day Gifts
"Painting" bisque is a fun and relaxing activity that can be done solo or with a group of friends. Make something great for Dad - no ugly ties this year! Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select.
Plant and Flower Drawing Class
This is a 6 week course on Thursdays May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, June 18, and June 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. This six-week beginner course will introduce how to use plants as the subject of art with easy approaches and successive lessons. Learn from artist Megan Henson as you draw from flowers and plants in the classroom, the Hughes Conservatory, and even get inspired by those early spring blooms in the outdoor gardens.
Walk-In Craft: Natural Lip Balm
Using natural products, mix up a batch of a custom lip balm to protect your kisser this summer. Essential oil will be available for fun scents or leave it au-natural. You will have enough to fill a couple tins plus extra that can be taken home and reheated for refilling tins several times over. Walk in anytime but give yourself about half an hour to finish.
Wheel Pottery Class
Students will be guided through all aspects of forming bowls, mugs, vases and more on the pottery wheel. Learn handle-pulling, glazing and finishing techniques. Open to absolute beginners as well as those with experience who would like to improve their technique and abilities.

Family Activity: Discovery Stations
Drop by for fun, informal activities in the Gardens during the summer that relate to themed garden areas. Discovery Stations are family oriented & designed so both youth & adults can participate in the activities. Each discovery station focuses on a corresponding educational activity and/or garden display, as well as interpretation of the 2015theme: "Celebrating the Past & the Future." Visitors can stop by any time to participate.
Perfume Blending Workshop
Natural perfumer Amanda Feeley will help you explore the basics of perfume creation, from basic perfume structure and terminology, to blending, precautions, oil classifications, and recipes. The fee includes all supplies used in the workshop as well as what you take home: handouts, recipes/instructions, and your very own 5ml custom blended perfume.

Great Plants for Iowa Class
Topic: Small Trees Go beyond the crabapple. Learn more about the many small, colorful, often blooming trees perfectly suited for the residential landscape in Iowa. Many of these wonderful plants burst into bloom early in the season, so we've moved our class so we can actually see them. Learn more about the dozens of colorful blooms that grow from bulbs, corms, rhizomes, and tubers in the Iowa garden.
Gardening for Pollinators Class
Learn how to attract native pollinators to your garden from an expert, as Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing Curator and entomologist, Nathan Brockman, discusses the favorite plants for butterflies, bees, beetles and others. Learn about effective pollinator garden characteristics, where and when to plant, and which host and nectar plants are best for different species.

Tango Basics
Tango is a rich and complex improvisational dance, considered to be the most challenging yet most fulfilling of all the partnered dances. Starting with a salida, learn to link basic movement patterns so you can have a dancing "conversation" with your partner. Learn the language of Tango and "speak" it with the music. Tango can improve your balance, focus, sensitivity and your ability to work with and respond to a partner. Plus, it's loads of fun!

Dye a silk or cotton scarf with patterns and variations in tones. Choose from two natural dyes - Indigo which makes vibrant blue or kamala which makes golden yellow. Drop in anytime during the evening but give yourself about 45 minutes to complete the project.
