Stop by The Workspace and design a button or magnet with your message of peace, or choose from one of our "create peace" designs. Buttons and magnets are 50 cents each and proceeds will be used toward supplies for our Little Dresses for Africa project.
Walk-In Craft: Silkscreen Prints
Create patterned paper that can be used for handmade cards and tags, gift wrap, incorporated into collage, or simply framed and displayed in your space. A variety of screens will be prepared and we will show you how to use a squeegee for inking.
Belly Dance Basics Workshop
Grab your friends and join Shiara for an evening dedicated to exploring some of the basic rhythms and beautiful dance props used in Middle Eastern Belly Dance! A few props will be provided and shared between students. Students are encouraged to bring their own veils and canes if they have them.
Panel: The U.S. Supreme Court on Religious Liberty, Birth Control and Corporate Personhood

Learning how to play finger cymbals to accompany your dancing. We'll focus on making different sounds, learning basic patterns and then put it all together with some movement. Bring cymbals if you have them, otherwise a few pair will be available to share.

Grandma Mojo's Moonshine Revival is Iowa State University's student comedy, improv group. Holding shows on some Wednesday nights, you can come and laugh to your hearts content at the Mojos, and with the Mojos.

Mat Cutting Class
Learn to size mats, cut straight and beveled edges, and hinge mount artwork. Bring a 5 x 7 or smaller art piece with you to class. This class is required in order to use the mat cutter on your own. Follow this with the Picture Frames class and present your work like a pro!

Tai Chi Class
The class is an introduction to the Yang Style Short Form as taught by Cheng Man-Ch'ing. Learning and doing the Form's movements refresh the spirit and improve balance, posture, flexibility, attitude, confidence and overall health and well-being. Students will also learn some Qigong health exercises. Lloyd has been studying and practicing Yang Style Tai Chi for two decades.
Walk-In Craft: Sun Prints
Sun prints are made on special paper that is light sensitive. Place objects on the paper, expose the materials to the sun and the area exposed to the sun will fade from blue to white. We will have some items from nature (leaves, flowers, etc.) but feel free to bring in your own objects to try.

Stop by The Workspace and make a painted stone mandala using simple geometric forms. Keep it as a talisman for yourself or give it to someone as a small but special gift.
Embroidered Mandalas Class
Mandalas are symbolic in Hinduism and Buddhism, and are created with geometric shapes incorporating ancient spiritual symbols. The Memorial Union will be hosting Tibetan Monks September 22-25, and they will create a large scale sand mandala on the 2nd floor. Make your own brightly colored mandala while learning embroidery stitches. Use one of our designs, or get inspiration from the Monks and create your own. Finished mandalas can be hung in

Natural Elements in Fine Silver Class
"Paint" metal clay on real leaves, seed pods, or other bit of nature. After firing in the kiln, only beautiful fine silver will be left behind, a lasting representation of a natural element. In the second session, a pendant or earrings will be created from these fine silver pieces.

The Symbolism of the Sand Mandala
Monks from the the Drepung Loseling Monastery will create a mandala sand painting in the lobby of the Memorial Union Monday, September 22 through Thursday, September 25. The process consists of opening ceremony with chants, music and mantra recitation and ends with the dismantling of the mandala and dispersal of the sand.
