Kobayashi and Maskawa received last years Physics Nobel Prize for extenting the quark mixing matrix to three generations. Their proposal was motivated by the observed CP violation in kaon decays. I will review the current experimental status of the quark mixing matrix and CP violation and comment on implications for physics beyond the standard model.
