Singers vie for advancement to regional and national competition and recognition by the Metropolitan Opera.

The public is invited to attend the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions - Iowa District on Saturday, January 9, 2010 beginning at noon in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall on the campus of Iowa State University at Ames. The auditions are a unique opportunity for opera enthusiasts to see and hear talented artists and for young opera singers to be heard by Metropolitan Opera representatives.

This Competition has been playfully called the "American Idol" for opera, but in reality it is much more. Singers, regardless of the level to which they advance, meet with prominent judges. The judges not only give feedback on each singer's audition, they also give career advice and recommendations for work, advanced study or apprenticeship.
