Barbara E. Forker, professor emeritus, began her career at Iowa State in 1948 as a physical education instructor. She served as chair of the department of physical education for women (1958-1974), and chair of the department of physical education and leisure studies (1974-1986). She retired in 1986.

In 1998, the Forker Building was dedicated in her name. Barbara passed away in Green Valley, Ariz., in May.
