Participate in an opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community! Join ISU students, faculty and staff, along with the people of Ames, to work together with area volunteer organizations on a variety of service projects.

Stash the Trash/VEISHEA Service Day 2012 will be held on Saturday, March 24. This event is a collaboration between VEISHEA, Keep Iowa State Beautiful, and Stash the Trash. On March 24, volunteers will pick up litter and other debris in Ames. You can work alone, with an organization, or with your family. Trash bags and gloves are available on the day of the event in the Reiman Gardens parking lot. A free lunch is provided and Reiman Gardens offers free admission to volunteers.

VEISHEA Service Day Projects:

•ACCESS: Spring cleaning - painting, moving furniture, yard work, etc.
•Ames Animal Shelter: Shelter beautification - cleaning and painting
•Ames Girls Softball Association: Concessions, equipment swap/garage sale
•Camp Hantesa: Painting game room and relocating the camp's library to another building *located in Boone*
•Campustown Action Association: Trash collection, window washing, and various simple jobs that anyone can do!
•Friendship Ark Homes: Help deep clean homes - scrub kitchen, sweep out garage, rake yard, etc.
•Goodwill Industries: Help take donations, sort items, hang clothes, and work on the sales floor
•Harmony Clothing Closet: Help organize and hang clothes, and convert inventory to provide those in need of clothing *located in Nevada*
•Iowa Arboretum: Cleaning up woodland trails - cutting back branches and carrying out dead wood, and mulching (depending on weather) *located in Madrid*
•Octagon Center for the Arts: Clean-up project in the Mezzanine & Sculpture Studio - discarding of unused items, hauling boxes to the trash bin, etc.
•Project Linus of Story County: Help make blankets at the Ames Library for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.
•The Ballard Clothes Pantry: Help organize, box up, and drop off clothes *located in Huxley*
•University Community Childcare: Clean up children's playgrounds and add mulch to play areas, and clean up flower beds using rakes, pitchforks, and wheelbarrows

Stash the Trash:

Stash the Trash is a community-wide beautification project. Local residents and ISU students work together to remove litter and other debris from neighborhoods, roadways, and parks. It is a great project for organizations, groups, and families. The registration form will include streets and parks to sign up for. Pick your neighborhood or your favorite spot in Ames!

*****Transportation to volunteer projects and locations will not be provided. Shifts will be from 9AM - 12PM or 1PM - 4PM & lunch will be provided
