The Architecture Scholarship and Awards Ceremony will begin at 4:30 in Kocimski Auditorium. This will also include introduction of Architecture Advisory Council (AAC) members, faculty, and recognition of new students as well as of Professor Emeritus Vernon Stone, in whose honor a new grant fund has been named, and Professor Thomas Leslie, the first Pickard Chilton Professor in Architecture at Iowa State. The awards ceremony will be followed by Curt F. Dale Guest Lecturer Bob Berkebile, FAIA, principal with BNIM, the 2011 AIA National Architecture Firm Award winner. The evening's events will conclude with an opening reception for the "Rome Program Exhibition 2011: The Sound of Architecture" in Gallery 181 and the Lightfoot Forum.
Curt F. Dale Guest Lecture
Berkebile will present "The Ultimate Design Problem: Sustaining Human Life" at approximately 5:30 p.m. Any list of accomplished, influential environmentalists and preservationists includes Berkebile. Highly regarded by fellow professionals, he focuses on improving the quality of life in our society with the integrity and spirit of his firm's work. In 2009, he received a Heinz Award for his role in promoting green building design and for his commitment and action towards restoring social, economic and environmental vitality to America's communities through sustainable architecture and planning. He was also third on a list of the "Top 5 U.S. Individual Role Models" for green and sustainable design in the 2009 DesignIntelligence Sustainable Design Survey.
