"The Dynamic Construction of Candidate Image," David Peterson, ISU political science. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, follows a dinner of Osborn Club members.

Lecture abstract: Candidates work hard to craft the image of their personality presented to voters. They spend millions of dollars and large amounts of their time in an effort to project a very specific sense of who they are. Academic research on the topic takes a very skeptical view of these efforts. Election winners and losers, scholars hold, result from fundamentals like the economy and the partisan balance on the country. In this work, I demonstrate the power of the media in crafting the image of who the candidates are and that these images are partially responsible for who wins in November.
