The world's leading experts in the use of protein nutrition to build and maintain muscle are gathering to honor ISU Professor Steven Nissen. The program is open to the ISU community, registered dietitians, personal trainers and other health professionals. Register online.

Dr. Steven Nissen and Dr. Naji Abumrad, chair of the department of surgery at Vanderbilt University, discovered the amino acid metabolite HMB, which is marketed nationally as Revigor(TM), a component of Ensure? Muscle Health.

The conference is timely given the growing interest in sarcopenia (age-associated loss of muscle mass and function), which is increasingly prevalent due to the aging of the U.S. population, and satiation by proteins, which is increasingly important given the global obesity epidemic. A recent Mintel market survey indicates that 87% of U.S. consumers consider satiety to be an important food attribute when choosing products. Sarcopenia is estimated to affect 30% of U.S. ages 60 years and older. The comprehensive, integrative overview of the roles of amino acids and proteins in human health and performance is unique to this conference.
