Some questions we'll examine are: What roles are available to post-tenure faculty? How do you prepare to move into an administrative role? How do administrative searches differ from faculty searches and how should you prepare for them? Before you go on the market as a senior faculty, join me in this session that will offer meaningful suggestions and options for your entry into higher education administration.
DoVeanna S. Fulton, Ph.D. is Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at the University of Houston-Downtown. Fulton earned her doctorate in American Studies at the University of Minnesota. Before joining the faculty at UHD, she was the founding chair of the department of Gender and Race Studies and director of Graduate Studies and African American Studies at the University of Alabama. She has held faculty appointments at Arizona State University, the University of Memphis, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Jimma University in Jimma, Ethiopia. As an administrator committed to academic excellence, Fulton strives to be a model as a leader-scholar by maintaining a research agenda that contributes to knowledge of African American lives and culture with scholarship focused on nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century experiences of African American women. Under Fulton's leadership CHSS has initiated several programs and initiatives, including two new graduate programs, and the Center for Critical Race Studies, an interdisciplinary research and academic unit that facilitates public discourse and cultivates social justice.
