One of the Energy Department's key objectives in bioenergy is to foster development of a robust, commercially-competitive biorefinery industry and help reduce the risk associated with designing, constructing and operating first-of-a-kind biorefinery demonstrations. This presentation will give key lessons and best practices the Department has learned over the last decade.

Jim Spaeth serves as the U.S. DOE's Bioenergy Technologies Office Demonstration & Market Transformation Program Manager. His current portfolio includes a DOE investment of over $900 million and consists of 25 projects focused on the development of advanced biofuels including renewable hydrocarbons and cellulosic ethanol.

Prior to joining DOE, Mr. Spaeth worked for over 10 years in the aerospace industry in engineering and business development positions with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. Mr. Spaeth's educational background includes a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering earned with high honors from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Technology Management and International Market Development.
