"intRo: Statistical Analysis Software for Teaching", Eric Hare and Andee Kaplan, Department of Statistics, Iowa State University, Ames

intRo is a web-based application, leveraging the power of R and Shiny, for performing basic data analysis and statistical modeling. The common statistical functions needed for most introductory statistics classes are implemented and easily accessible for a novice learner. It is programmed in an extensible modular structure so that modules for other topics can be added relatively easily. The simplicity of the interface and the modularity of design, will enable a natural progression for students, from an introductory statistics course as a substitute for packages, such as Excel and JMP, to advanced undergraduate classes, and encourage learning to program in the R language. intRo can be accessed at http://www.intro-stats.com. Our plan is to use this for Statistics 201 this semester. In this talk, we will introduce intRo, describe the design decisions underlying it, discuss how we overcame some challenges encountered during the development. We will also show how this application might be effectively used in an introductory statistics course, and how we plan to deploy it with 201.
