"Acknowledging Your Roots: The Idiosyncrasies of the Midwest." Join Reiman Gardens' Director Ed Lyon for a 6-week series that augments his book by the same title released this May. Each presentation addresses practical gardening applicable to novice and experienced gardeners alike.

This is a six week lecture series with a different topic each time. You can attend one or all six classes. Other class dates include, October 21, October 28, November 4, November 11 and November 18.

The goal of the talks and book is to present botany, horticulture and plant science in gardener terminology, simplifying complex information and offering useful advice based on the most current research. The first 90 minutes will be presentation, with the final 30 minutes open for questions specific to participants' own situations and experiences. Register for the series to receive a discount, as well as a free copy of Ed Lyon's accompanying book, Growing the Midwest Garden; or sign up for individual classes to suit your interests.

The Midwest is a region unlike any other in the country, with its own set of challenges. If you read national gardening magazines, you have probably been frustrated when much of the information is not applicable to your situation. But knowledge is power, and when you know the specifics behind the Midwest's unique characteristics, it will provide you with a valuable background of how to use the information to be a successful gardener. We will also look at specific ways that Iowa differs from other areas of the Midwest.

Preregistration with prepayment is required by Wednesday, October 7. $20 for members & $25 for general public. ISU students pay 15% off member price
