Light-front Hamiltonian approach is a natural ab initio framework to tackle relativistic bound-state problems in the non-perturbative regime. In this talk, I will first give an introduction to light-front dynamics, with the focus on Light-Front QCD. I will also discuss the systematic non-perturbative renormalization within a 3+1 scalar model. I will demonstrate the Fock sector dependent renormalization scheme, together with the systematic Fock sector expansion constitutes an ab initio light-front Hamiltonian approach to quantum field theories. Finally I will talk about a basis function approach, which takes advantage of the recent developments in AdS/QCD as well as the non-relativistic quantum many-body problems. I will discuss the application of Basis Light-Front Quantization to heavy quarkonium.
