Four years go, having already won numerous national and international awards, Chelsea Wang of West Des Moines, Iowa, graduated from Valley High School and entered the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, training ground of many of the world's most promising young artists. At Curtis, Chelsea has had the opportunity to work not only with her talented peers, but also to study and play chamber music with some of the esteemed Curtis faculty, including Ida Kavafian. Ms. Kavafian is one of our country's most cherished violinists (member of TASHI, the Beaux Arts Trio, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Opus One) and mentors of the violin (Curtis and Juilliard). Ms. Kavafian has performed twice before for Town & Gown; Ms. Wang performed on a T&G Musicale while still in high school.
