Restricted data are non-public data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau and other government agencies that contain information that could compromise the confidentiality of survey respondents or institutions, or is sensitive by nature. Projects using restricted access data regularly appear in top-tier academic publications and have spurred subsequent research using administrative datasets from other countries.
