In this talk I will overview the ongoing research projects on light-front physics in the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Our studies are based on Basis Light-front Quantization (BLFQ), a nonperturbative approach to light-front field theory in the Hamiltonian formalism. I will start with the application to the physical electron system, where I will present the resulting transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMD) and the generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (GTMD) of a physical electron and compare with those from perturbation theory. Next I will turn to the positronium system, which is calculated with the fundamental QED Hamiltonian in two Fock sectors (|e+e-> and |e+e-gamma>). I will compare the resulting mass spectrum and the wavefunctions with those obtained from an earlier calculation based an effective interaction and restricted to the leading Fock sector. Then I will go to the baryon system which is solved in the leading Fock sector with a transverse confining interaction applied. I will show the resulting mass spectrum and the TMD for the ground state. Finally, I will switch to time-dependent applications where we study the nonlinear Compton scattering process in which a physical electron travels through a strong electromagnetic field.
