Registration begins for sophomores: Summer 2015, Fall 2015

Online Presentation: Designing Coursework as a Game with Lee Sheldon
Everywhere educators from K-12 to university professors are attempting to negotiate the widening gap between decades-old teaching methods and the parallel-processing and social-networking students of today. They recognize that students seem more focused on video game challenges than their classes, but literal efforts to use video games to teach have met with uncertain success.
Town hall: Role of the chief diversity officer
The committee searching for ISU's chief diversity officer seeks input on the role of the diversity officer. The committee will use ideas collected through a series of town hall meetings to develop a job description.
Keck Foundation Information Session
Donna Van Pelt, ISU Foundation senior director of development, will present information on the W. M. Keck Foundation's research grant program and explain the selection process. The Keck Foundation funds projects in the medical research focus area and the science/engineering focus area. Grants range from $500,000 to $2 million.

Class: Beginner Photography
This is a 4 week course on Tuesdays beginning April 7, April 14, April 21, & April 28 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. This 4-part workshop covers the basics of photography including equipment & how to use it, depth of field, aperture, light, composition, finding your subject & tips & tricks. Each class is broken into 3 parts: classroom discussion, hands-on practice taking pictures by the students & review. Bring your DSLR camera & tripod to each class.

Lecture: Children, Technology and the Changing Definition of Play
Doris Bergen is a Distinguished Professor of Educational Psychology Emerita at Miami University in Ohio. Her work focuses on learning and human development, with a special focus on how technology-enhanced toys affect play, adult memories of childhood play, and the development of humor, especially in gifted children.
Lecture: Gay Conversion Therapy
Samuel (Sam) Brinton will speak about his first-hand experiences with conversion therapy and championing for state legislation to prohibit treatments of this kind. A bill of this sort has passed in the Iowa Senate but has yet to become law. Conversion therapy is a range of treatments attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation. It can include electroshock therapy along with other forms of physical and mental abuse.

Nanovaccine Initiative Seminar: Vlasta Klima Balloun Lecture
"Engineering Immune Responses in Vaccination and Tolerance Induction," Jeffrey Hubbell, Institute for Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago. Hubbell will discuss his research in immunological tolerance technology for preventing immunity to protein drugs that would otherwise elicit an immune response. This is a 3 week course on Thursdays, April 2, April 9, and April 16 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Learn to form sheets of handmade paper using pulp prepared from recycled materials in this hands-on class that makes a splash.
