Snowblower Service Days
The maintenance service provided by members of the Agricultural Systems Technology Club includes oil, grease, spark plug and a half tank of gas (no repairs). Service begins Oct. 20 (1-6 p.m.).
Open house: Ames Municipal Airport
The Ames Municipal Airport Modernization project is a multiphased improvement plan that includes a new airport hangar and terminal. The project is a private-public partnership that includes investments by the City of Ames, Iowa State University, the Ames Economic Development Commission, and the Ames business community. A ribbon-cutting and short program will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Concert: Dance Scholarship Gala
The annual Dance Scholarship Gala Concert features Orchesis I student dancers, local dance artists and the San Francisco-based Deborah Slater Dance Theater. Proceeds from the event benefit the ISU Dance Scholarship fund for dance majors and minors. Tickets are available at the door.

Concert: Desi Valentine
Valentine was raised in London, but moved to Los Angeles to pursue his recording career. While you can hear traces of Valentine's influences in his music, he has a style that is truly unique and refreshing. His voice is raw, powerful, and intense. It is the perfect vessel for his combination of British rock, classic soul, and modern R&B. When Valentine sings, you feel each emotion he is trying to convey.

ISU Symphonic Band and ISU Concert Band
The Symphonic Band is an 80-member ensemble that explores traditional as well as contemporary works by composers such as Percy Grainger, Malcolm Arnold, Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Leonard Bernstein. The Concert Band performs a variety of rich literature and approximately 100 students take part in this group.

"It Depends on the Lens: Addressing Unconscious Bias in the Faculty Search." An interactive workshop designed for chairs, faculty members and search committee members. Preregister by Oct. 12. This workshop will be repeated 1-3 p.m. in the same location. Refreshments served prior to the start of both workshops.
Workshop: Open Science Framework
"Open Science Framework (OSF): A Research Workflow Tool to Support Transparency and Rigor in Scholarship." Part of the challenge of making research more transparent and reproducible is logistical. The OSF is a free project management service and repository where researchers -- using their own tools and processes -- can collaborate within their research groups and choose components of their research for broader dissemination.
Workshop Panel: Open Educational Resources
Join us for a panel discussion on the impact of OER in the classroom. Faculty using Open Educational Resources (OER) in their courses share the benefits and challenges of making the switch to OER and students share their opinion on how OER could affect their learning. Participants will leave the workshop with plans for incorporating OER into their courses and a pathway to making their classes more affordable.
Reception and awards: Studies in Creativity exhibit

Art Walk: Celebrating Artful Engineering at Iowa State
"Innovation and Discovery." With Marston Hall reborn and reopened, it is a perfect time to enjoy the wonderful Art on Campus Collection in the College of Engineering that inspires those who study, work, and visit the College. Starting at the Marston Water Tower (from a distance), we will discover and discuss many of the public works of art that define the aesthetic of the Engineering environment. Meet at the West entrance to Marston at noon.
Homecoming: 'Bomb' Transcribe-A-Thon
Participants will learn about "The Bomb" -- Iowa State's yearbook from 1894 to 1994 -- and how to transcribe its content. A quick tutorial is all it takes to get started. The event is free, and participants may come and go during the afternoon. Join the fun and learn about ISU history, too.
