Lecture: Public Interest Design
Design Corps founder Bryan Bell will offer examples of successful projects and best practices in public interest design--a rapidly growing field that encompasses work often called community design, social design, humanitarian design and pro bono design--and propose ways to maximize the public value of design. Part of the Spring 2015 Architecture Advisory Council Lecture Series.
Class: Botanical Drawing
This is a 6 week course on Mondays March 23, March 30, April 6, April 13, April 20, & April 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Learn how to use plants as the subject of art with easy approaches & successive lessons. Learn from artist Megan Henson as you draw from flowers & plants in the classroom, the Hughes Conservatory, & even get inspired by those early spring blooms in outside. Use your drawings for nature journals, hand-made cards, & more.
Public hearing: Regents' agenda
At this public hearing, individuals have an opportunity to provide early input on agenda items for the state Board of Regents March 11 meeting in Iowa City.
Feminist Embroidery Class
Celebrate Women's History Month by turning inspiring words into stitched art. Needlework has moved from early samplers and quilting decoration to embellished clothing in the 70's to modern themes by DIY "makers" of today. Use one of our quotes, or bring in your own ideas and learn a couple basic stitches. Finished quotes can be hung in the provided hoops or stitched onto another project. All genders welcome.
Blurring the Boundaries
Dan Corson is an award-winning public artist from Seattle who uses his background in art and theatrical design to create installations filled with drama, light and engaging viewer interactions. Corson will discuss several of his past, present and upcoming projects.
