Young Women in Business

With a business degree, all that and more are possible. But what is it like to be a business major? Or to work in a particular industry? The College of Business at wants to help you find out.

Research workshop: Emerging opportunities and competitive NSF grant proposals

Mary Galvin-Donoghue, Division Director of Materials Research in the Directorate of Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the NSF will explain the agency's culture, review process and suggestions on how to submit a successful grant proposal to NSF. She will highlight specific programs and talk about emerging opportunities in the area of mathematical and physical sciences.

Studies in Creativity Student Juried Art Exhibit Submission

ISU students of all majors are invited to enter up to 3 pieces of artwork to be considered for the Studies in Creativity Exhibit which will be on display October 23-December 9 at the MU.

Forum: Real-World, Ill-Defined Problems: Collaborating Across Disciplines

Professors Nell Gabiam (Political Science), Suzanne Hendrich (Food Science and Human Nutrition), Christina Gish Hill (Anthropology), and Jan Thompson (Natural Resource Ecology Management) share how they engaged students across four disciplines in learning about the complex problem of world hunger.

Enameling Class

Channel: The Workspace

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm @ Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union

Enameling (using heat to fuse powdered glass to metal) creates a fabulous splash of color for jewelry. Using a torch and a few simple tools you will enamel on flat metal. Combine your components to make multi-dangle earrings in brilliant colors, and have enough discs left over for future jewelry projects.

Re-Upholstery Class

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm @ Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union

Fix up an old stool or simple chair and customize it for your space. Dan will work with students on how to deconstruct and then reconstruct your piece including choosing the correct fabric. Note this is a very basic class - no sofas, armchairs, etc.

Workshop: Complex materials

Channel: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

1:00 pm - 5:30 pm @ Alumni Center

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Signature Research Themes workshop will examine "Complex Materials" from scientific, social sciences and humanities perspectives. The free workshop is designed for ISU faculty and research staff interested in cross-disciplinary research opportunities. The meeting includes speakers, Q&A periods, a panel discussion and breakout sessions. Preregistration required.

Basketweaving Class

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union

Weave a basket that can hang on the wall or on a door. Catch your mail, your keys, or other items you need a special place for. This basket will incorporate reed, cane and seasonal decorations.
