Morrill Professor of architecture Tom Leslie will present "Postwar Skyscrapers from the Inside Out: The Role of Lighting in the Development of the 'Glass Box'" and architecture associate professor Vladimir Kulic will present "Learning from Yugoslavia" in this research exchange event. Friday Research Seminar: Canopy as an Architectural 'Parti'
In her book "The Framing of Sacred Space: The Canopy and the Byzantine Church," Jelena Bogdanovic, associate professor of architecture, provides an innovative interpretation of the relationships between the canopy and the design of the Byzantine church. She will discuss the canopy as an architectural "parti" -- a guiding idea for design -- that generated unique experiences of being in space. Part of the IDRO Friday Research Seminar Series.

Closing reception for the MFA thesis exhibition of prints by integrated visual arts graduate student Andrew Zandt that explore the relationship between the human body and surface through the lens of skin and clothing.
Spring into Arts Festival
The Community-Engaged Arts Management class taught by Jennifer Drinkwater, assistant professor of art and visual culture, will host this celebration of spring festivals. The family-friendly event will feature interactive art and craft projects, including make-your-own May Day treat baskets, a community-crafted flower wall and a collaborative outdoor Holi piece.

Wearables Design Show
First-year students in the Design Studies 102 studio will investigate how their work can interact with and be designed for the human body and explore materials and fabrication processes, kinetic behavior and more. They will showcase their wearables in a runway-style show with DJ, judges and awards. Attendees can interact with the models and their wearables after the show.

Civil Encounters: Exploring "Other" Urbanisms
Michael Martin, a Milwaukee-based planner and adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will offer insights into the history of urbanization in Cuba and describe how Havana's social housing experiments aim to improve dignity and self-respect among those with the greatest need. This is the final session in the Spring 2019 Urban Design Colloquium: Questions of Civility.

Sketching: The Mental Camera Roll
Sketching is a form of design notation and communication, a way in which ideas from the mental camera roll develop into forms and spaces and eventually built space. Richard Alomar, Rutgers University associate professor of landscape architecture, will talk about sketchbooks and journals as mediums for data collection, present sketching exercise examples and share ways students can develop a practice of sketching to record their experience.
