Lecture: Undocumented Immigrants in Higher Ed
"Undocumented Immigrant Students in Higher Education Discourse and Policy," Ryan Gildersleeve, ISU educational leadership and policy studies. He will talk about undocumented immigrant students and how they have been politicized in higher education, particularly in terms of their access and participation in public institutions. Part of Latino Heritage Month.
Lipa Festival
This annual festival showcases recent electroacoustic and visual music. Guest composer Elainie Lillios will present music created by placing electronic and natural sounds in Ambisonic sound space, surrounding the audience.
Third annual RISE/ELPS Lecture
"Exceptional Students, Marginal Lives: Achievement and Civic Engagement Among Undocumented Youth," William Perez, Claremont Graduate University, California. The lecture is preceded at 2 p.m. by a poster fair with light refreshments. Posters summarize research projects that RISE staff have worked on in the past year.
Seminar: "Biofuels: Policy and Technology at a Crossroads"
John Caupert, director of the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center, will lead this seminar, which is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Works in Progress Series
"Energy Efficiency and Preservation of Small-Scale Midwestern Main Street Commercial Heritage," Ulrike Passe, assistant professor of architecture and director of the Center for Building Energy Research. Passe will talk about her current work with the Green & Main project, a small-scale "Main Street"-type building found in the Sherman Hill Historic District of Des Moines. All are welcome to attend.
