Teaching mathematics and science in community college
IMSEP with host "Teaching mathematics and science in community college career day," on Oct. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Science Center of Iowa (Des Moines). Former NASA astronaut and community college graduate Robert Gibson will be the guest speaker. The workshop is free and lunch is provided.
Stafford Lecture Series: Housing finance and public policy
"The Future of Housing Finance and the Public Policy Implications," Richard Swanson, president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank, Des Moines. He will will explore the causes and effects of the recent changes in housing and housing finance and examine key principles that will need to be considered for future housing finance structures. A reception will be held at 10 a.m. in the Cox Dean's Suite, 2200 Gerdin Business Building.
Tuesday Tea at the Farm House Museum
Come to the Farm House Museum to enjoy tea and conversation. Mark your calendar from Noon to 1:00 pm each Tuesday this month (Oct. 6th, 13th, 20, 27th) and enjoy the 150 year old structure in a whole new way. After tea, all are welcome to join a guided tour that will highlight different topics each week, including Victorian music and entertainment, women's work through the years, Victorian dining, and more.

Performance: "Farmscape"
Join Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander and a cast of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 'celebrities' for a special performance of "Farmscape." The student-written production documents our changing rural environment by recreating interviews with people involved in how we grow our food and live our lives in rural America.

Workshop: Pumpkin Decorating
Learn a little about the pumpkin's interesting history while decorating one of these scary squashes for Halloween. Each participant will get to decorate and take a pumpkin home with them.
"Fall Melange" with ISU Dance
Iowa State Dance students and faculty members will present "Fall Melange," featuring nine pieces combining ballet, tap, modern, jazz dance with class East Indian Classical Bharatanatyam. Suparna Banerjee, Alvin Edgar Guest Resident Artist/Scholar and Janice Baker choreographed and created the show.
Lecture: Preparing leaders for global challenges
"Preparing Leaders to Meet Future Global Challenges," Charles Manatt. The Iowa State alum has a distinguished career in law, business, and politics, holding such positions as chair of the Democratic National Committee in (1981), co-chair of the 1992 Clinton-Gore presidential campaign, and U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic under President Clinton.
Lecture: "The Environmental Significance of Biodiversity"
Shahid Naeem is professor and chair of Columbia University's Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology. He leads a research group studying the ecological consequences of biodiversity loss and has been actively involved in bringing the science of biodiversity to conservation, restoration and policy development.
