Her work focuses on learning and human development, with a special focus on how technology-enhanced toys affect play, adult memories of childhood play, and the development of humor, especially in gifted children.

Samuel (Sam) Brinton will speak about his first-hand experiences with conversion therapy and championing for state legislation to prohibit treatments of this kind. A bill of this sort has passed in the Iowa Senate but has yet to become law. Conversion therapy is a range of treatments attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation. It can include electroshock therapy along with other forms of physical and mental abuse.
