Lecture: Think Like a Journalist with Andrea Sahouri
Des Moines Register reporter Andrea Sahouri was covering a Black Lives Matter protest when a Des Moines police officer arrested her. She and others made it clear she was a journalist, but prosecutors refused to drop the charges. After a 3-day jury trial, Sahouri was acquitted in under two hours. Sahouri will share her harrowing story, talk about the importance of a free press and answer questions. A First Amendment Days event.

During last summer's Black Lives Matter protests in Washington, D.C., journalist and Ames native Will Fowler, a science writer for WE&T, and freelance journalist and editor, headed to the streets. At first intending to observe the demonstrations as a reporter, he quickly became involved with the movement directly. Can a reporter become so entangled in a story that remaining objective becomes impossible? A First Amendment Days event.

Matt Lamb is an assistant editor for The College Fix, a higher education news site, which trains student journalists. In college, he interned for a government watchdog group called Open the Books.
