The Stormettes Dance Line promotes team endurance and body-positivity by performing a variety of different dance styles including the majorette, heels and hip-hop styles. This team, open to Iowa State students with varying levels of dance experience, serves the Iowa State, Ames and Des Moines communities through performances and workshops. Xiaoxing Xi is the Laura H. Carnell Professor of Physics at Temple University. Prior to joining Temple in 2009, he was a Professor of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. Since 2015, he has spoken out actively for open fundamental research and against racial profiling and received the American Physical Society 2020 Andrei Sakharov Prize for his effort.

Frederick Douglass Patterson's America: Reimagining a Democracy
The College of Veterinary Medicine is celebrating the centennial of the graduation of Dr. Frederick Douglass Patterson, who was the fourth Black graduate of the veterinary college. Dr. Patterson became president of Tuskegee Institute where he established its College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Engineering, and the aviation program that later developed into the Tuskegee Airmen. He also founded the United Negro College Fund.

Seeking Justice When a Teenage Victim Fights Back
Pieper Lewis was 15 when she fatally stabbed her rapist more than 30 times in June 2020 in a Des Moines apartment. She pleaded guilty in June 2021 to voluntary manslaughter and willful injury. Pieperââ'¬â"¢s legal team, led by Assistant State Public Defenders Matthew Sheeley, Magdalena Reese, and Paul White, worked tirelessly to seek justice for Pieper who faced up to 20 years in prison.

A Pearl Hogrefe Lecture Sarah Vogel is an attorney, advocate, and author of The Farmerââ'¬â"¢s Lawyer, a memoir about her landmark class action lawsuit, Coleman v. Block. Vogel brought the historic case against the federal government on behalf of 240,000 family farmers facing foreclosure during the 1980s farm crisis.

Amy Andreotti, University Professor in the biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, will deliver the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Spring Dean's Lecture. Andreotti, a biochemist with expertise in structural biology and immune cell signaling, will highlight three stories that illustrate how scientists and physicians are devising new approaches to specific types of cancers.
Film and discussion: Tik Tok Boom
The 2022 film TikTok Boom is a documentary that explores the ways in which members of ethnic minorities have been affected, and often marginalized, by this social media phenomenon. Novotny Lawrence focuses his research on film studies, blaxploitation cinema, race, media, and popular culture. He has a joint appointment between the Greenlee School of Journalism and the English Department. Free snacks will be provided.
