Hand Lettering + Florals Workshop
Kristin Erdman Walk through a step-by-step process to learn the basics of hand-lettering and learn how to draw a few simple florals. Combine these to create a wreath with pens and watercolors. Pop it in a 5" x 7" frame and leave with some new artwork for your walls and extra practice sheets to continue honing your skills. Beginners and lefties welcome!
Sewing Lessons
Judy Lemish Whether you are a beginner needing to learn how to operate a sewing machine, or someone who needs help finishing a project in progress, this is for you. Choose one of the dates below to work one-on-one with Judy and learn the skills you need to keep going on your own. Bring in your machine or borrow one of ours and begin making beautiful things, one stitch at a time.

Performance: Cirque Mei
From People's Republic of China, Cirque Mei features traditional and contemporary Chinese circus acts in a colorful and lively celebration of the internationally renowned Chinese circus arts. The performance features a company of 40 elite circus artists and acrobats and includes many of the most popular Chinese circus routines including Hoops Diving, Lion Dance, Collective Bicycle Skills, Flying Meteors, and more.

Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Susan Chrysler White
Admire the bold and exuberant new works of art by Susan Chrysler White at the opening reception of her exhibition at the Christian Petersen Art Museum.
Documentary: Voices from Mariel
The director recounts the story of five individuals who come to the United States from Cuba in the 1980 boat crisis from the Mariel Port. Lucia Suarez, associate professor in world languages and cultures, will lead a Q&A after the screening.
Woodshop Orientation
Learn the fundamentals of woodworking equipment while creating a tool carrier. Leave class with knowledge of proper machinery use, and, most importantly, woodshop safety. Students may purchase the toolbox for $6 after class or we will use them for our Art Mart fundraiser. The orientation is required in order to use the woodshop on your own.
Artist Talk and Reception: Kristin Nowlin
Artist Kristin Nowlin will lead a talk about her exhibit, "Rebellious Rendezvous," which closes Oct. 6. Nowlin is a native of Ames and is currently an instructor at Kansas State University. She lives and works in her home studio in Manhattan, Kansas.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Old McDonald's Farm
For those that love moos, clucks, oinks, neighs, meows, barks, and squawks. We will show you the basics of painting your piece and fire it within a week. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select. Drop off but give yourself an hour.

Performance: ISU Wind Ensemble
The ISU Wind Ensemble features sixty of the finest student wind and percussion players on the Iowa State campus. They often feature renowned guest conductors, composers and soloists. Students are directed by Dr. Michael Golemo. The Wind Ensemble has toured Europe seven times since 2003, and plans to tour Asia in May, 2020.

Alla Prima Oil Painting Workshop
Sara Merritt Wet-on-wet, or alla prima (Italian, meaning at first attempt) painting is a technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previous layers of wet paint, resulting in vibrant works. NOT a beginner's class. Must have prior painting knowledge such as brush work and color mixing. Bring an image to work from, an apron/paint clothes, and a bag. A canvas and all other supplies (brushes, tools and oil paint colors) will be provided.

Argentine Tango Lessons
Valerie Williams This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm, moves for beginners are introduced with different partners for practice. From 5-7pm, the floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie, and for working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.
