Abstract

Linear polyenes exhibit multiple functions in a range of natural systems from plants to microorganisms. Using advanced spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, we are investigating the electronic structure and actions of these systems. Our results include studies of dynamic lineshapes in β-carotene that are revealed by broadband 2D electronic spectroscopy, and a recently constructed pump-probe microscope that can image the action of polyene antibiotics in vivo.
