"Sharing Solutions and Closing the Gap," Julie Kumble, Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts, and Donald Smith, DVM and dean emeritus, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The presentation, based on data and interviews with women leaders from all areas of the veterinary medicine profession, will examine topics such as critical mass, the "leaky pipeline," perfection complex and institutional factors that thwart women's leadership in the field. It also will explore the benefits of mentoring, successful models of practice ownership for work-life balance.

Women have made up more than 50 percent of veterinary medicine graduates for more than 30 years, yet leadership in organized VM, industry and academia still is less than 20 percent.
