This workshop is designed for PhDs and early career researchers who are considering their future career options. Many PhDs as well as faculty in temporary positions are concerned about how they can transfer their research skills and experience into jobs outside of academia. This workshop will help attendees to identify their non-academic career options, and the in-demand skill sets they can offer to future employers.

Strategic advice on key job-hunting areas such as CVs, letters of application and interview technique are also covered.

Chris Humphrey, PhD is a former humanities postdoctoral fellow at the University of York, UK (1997), and a graduate of University of Southampton, UK (BA English Studies 1992; MA Culture and Social Change 1993). Chris has spent the last thirteen years working as a project and programme manager in the private sector, specialising in technology, transport and sustainability. Proving that a PhD in Medieval Studies can open the door to a world of exciting job opportunities, Chris now works as a project manager with the world's leading ethical and sustainable bank.

Chris is the founder of Jobs on Toast, a blog dedicated to helping masters students and PhDs to find fulfilling careers outside of academia, and regularly gives workshops at UK universities on the subject of marketing yourself for a career outside academia, and in 2014 he will be launching an online directory of products and services which can benefit doctoral researchers.
