Raku is a form of Japanese pottery dating back to the 16th century. Using low firing temperatures and removing pots from the kiln while still hot, a unique surface finish is created, often with crackled textures.

Students will hand-build or throw simple objects which, after bisque firing, will be glazed and fired using the "Western" style technique which utilizes a post-firing reduction sequence. Wear long sleeves, cotton clothing and closed toed shoes to the firing.
