This is one of three public meetings the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau will host today to give Ames voters a chance to learn more about the public vote on March 4 for the proposed renovations and expansion of the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center. Meetings also begin at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the same location.

To meet the growing demand for a larger event space to host larger expositions and trade shows, social receptions, banquets, job fairs, professional conferences and educational opportunities, the City of Ames and Iowa State University are collaborating to expand and update the multi-use convention space at the Iowa State Center.

With voter approval, the proposed project will renovate the Scheman Building and attach a new building to the north side. Funding for the project, which is estimated to cost $38 million, would be split between the city and university. To pay for the city's portion of $19 million, a bond referendum will be held on Tuesday, March 4.
