The authors of the forthcoming manuscript, Beginning A Career in Academia: A Guide for Graduate Students of Color (Routledge 2014), will offer a panel-style discussion about strategies for succeeding in the early years of tenure-track position.

Beginning A Career in Academia provides recommendations and tips to enhance the job search, identify campus fit, prepare for the interview and negotiation process, address dynamics of of racial and gender politics, find work-life balance, and demystify the promotion and tenure process. In this workshop, Professors Mack, Watson and Camacho will share some of their insights from the volume and engage the audience in a one-on-one Q&A.

Dwayne A. Mack is Associate Professor of History and Carter G. Woodson Chair of African American History at Berea College.

Elwood Watson is Professor of History, African American Studies and Gender Studies at East Tennessee State University.

Michelle Madsen Camacho is Professor of Sociology and affiliated faculty with the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of San Diego.

How to activate your membership account in the NCFDD
1. Go to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity website
2. Select the "Become a Member" tab and choose "Individual Membership" (Do not follow the "Click here to become a member" link in the middle of the center's homepage)
