"Dispatches From the Front Lines of Vaccination Policy and Practice," Lori Parsons, Iowa Immunization Coalition. Parsons will discuss how parents make vaccination decisions and the challenges healthcare providers face with current vaccines. A reception precedes her seminar at 1:30 p.m.

Abstract
The Iowa Immunization Coalition was formed in 1996 as a volunteer organization to increase influenza vaccination rates among the Medicare population. The Coalition's mission today is to promote immunizations for Iowans of all ages.

This session will provide an opportunity to discuss immunization practice from a collection of research on vaccine safety, specifically how this research correlates to parents making vaccination decisions for their children. We will discuss the practical epidemiology of school absence reporting and targeting immunization clinics based on that data. We will also address the challenges healthcare providers face with booster dose requirements, keeping the cold chain for refrigerated and frozen vaccines, the ever-changing recommendations for immunizations, and the vaccine presentations that are eventually brought to market.
