"Ready to Run Iowa" is nonpartisan, campaign training for women considering running for elective office in Iowa, preparing for appointive office, or seeking to be leaders in their communities. Registration is required.

This workshop summarizes the history of Iowa's gender balance legislation on the state, county and local level; provides data on women's representation on public boards and commissions; discusses how to position oneself for appointment to a public board or commission in Iowa; and provides an overview of effective advocacy techniques for promoting an idea or issue across various political and community contexts.

Panelists currently working with boards and commissions at various levels throughout the state will discuss their experiences being appointed to, serving on and making appointments to boards, and the rewards and challenges of advocating and strategies for success.

This is the second of six interactive workshops offered by the Catt Center in its 2015 "Ready to Run" series. Each may be attended on its own or in conjunction with others in the series.
