Samuel (Sam) Brinton will speak about his first-hand experiences with conversion therapy and championing for state legislation to prohibit treatments of this kind. A bill of this sort has passed in the Iowa Senate but has yet to become law. Conversion therapy is a range of treatments attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation. It can include electroshock therapy along with other forms of physical and mental abuse.

The lecture is the productive effort of six LGBT focused organizations, spearheaded by Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity, an organization of which, Sam is a brother. The university organizations collaborating are:
-- Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity
-- Iowa State LGBTQA+ Faculty Staff Association
-- Iowa State Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Student Services
-- Graduate Students in Counseling Psychology
-- Iowa State LGBTA Alliance
-- Gamma Rho Lambda Sorority
