In this session, Dr. Matthew Schmidt will share his experience of using GBL in his courses and research. And how he uses his teaching experience as a research opportunity. The presentation will focus on challenges and highlights of research on teaching with GBL. Potential strategies for finding appropriate outlets for publication and collaboration plan will also be discussed.

About Matthew Schmidt
Dr. Matthew Schmidt is an assistant professor in Instructional Design and Technology in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services at UC. He holds a PhD in instructional technology which he completed under the direction of Dr. David Jonassen at the University of Missouri. Dr. Schmidt also completed his post-doctoral fellowship in advanced learning technologies at the University of Missouri. Dr. Schmidt's research is tightly coupled with design and development work and is rooted firmly in highly iterative reflexive inquiry approaches such as design-based research, rapid prototyping, and action research. Specifically, Dr. Schmidt's research focuses on designing learner supports in virtual worlds, digital games and simulations and supporting teachers; integration of mobile technologies in their instruction. He has received awards for his research excellence and has authored and co-authored numerous refereed publications on the use of technology to enhance learning and instruction. He has presented at over 30 regional, national, and international conferences on her research. Currently, Dr. Schmidt teaches courses in Instructional Design and Technology.
