"How Technology is Transforming the Response to Global Epidemics," Steven VanRoekel, former USAID chief innovation officer who was responsible for advising the agency on using technology and data in its response to the ebola epidemic. He is a graduate of Iowa State. World Affairs Series

VanRoekel served previously in the White House as the Chief Information Officer of the United States. His other appointments in the Obama Administration include executive director of Citizen and Organizational Engagement at USAID and managing director of the Federal Communications Commission, FCC, where he oversaw all operational, technical, financial, and human resource aspects of the agency. He worked at Microsoft Corporation from 1994 to 2009, including as a senior director in the Windows Server and Tools Division.

VanRoekel received a degree in management of information systems, MIS, from Iowa State.
