Xavier Cavazos, a 2013 graduate of Iowa State's MFA Program in Creative Writing and the Environment, will read from his new book of poetry inspired by stories of the life and times of George Washington Carver.

Cavazos currently teaches in the Central Washington Writing Project, Africana and Black Studies, and the Professional and Creative Writing Programs at Central Washington University. Diamond Grove Slave Tree won the inaugural Prairie Seed Poetry Prize from Ice Cube Press.
