Modeling the Interstellar Medium in Galactic Collisions (Travis Yeager, Iowa State University)

Interstellar medium has been observed between the Taffy galaxies which have recently undergone a merger event. The linking region called the bridge has been shown to contain tenuous HI gas dust and dense molecular clouds. By writing a code that generates two generic spiral galaxies and overlapping them in various ways, statistics can be found on the likely hood of specific interstellar collisions. The goal in doing this is so upper limits can be placed on how much ISM is redistributed in collisions.
