The problem with a maturing home landscape is that all of those gorgeous trees you have been nurturing to their magnificent adult size are now diminishing those full-sun perennial beds. Don't despair; shade gardening is more than hostas and astilbes. The plant palette is much more expansive than many people realize. In addition, shade opens up entirely different garden uses and sensations that balance sun inspired areas. Come learn why shade is 'hot'!

Topic: The Foundation Plants

Shade got you down? Would you be pleased to know there is a large palette of plants that can provide beauty and interest to the shade garden? In fact, there are so many that we need two lectures to cover them. There are plants that "glow in the dark", flowers than range from delicately diminutive to exotic, foliage that intrigues, architectural forms for a winter garden, and textures to provide contrast. "Foundation Plants" starts with the durable good doers -- those plants that will establish with the least fuss and provide the foundation of the design.

Preregistration with prepayment is required by Monday, March 7. Cost for one class is $16 for members and $20 for the general public. Cost for the series is$60 for members and $75 for the general public. Iowa State University students pay 15% off the member rate.
