Learn about shade gardening with Reiman Gardens' Director, Ed Lyon.

A 4 week course on Thursdays, March 3, March 10, March 24, March 31 (no class March 17) from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
You may register for one or more classes individually or the entire series.

The problem with a maturing home landscape is that all of those gorgeous trees you have been nurturing to their magnificent adult size are now diminishing those full-sun perennial beds. Don't despair; shade gardening is more than hostas and astilbes. The plant palette is much more expansive than many people realize. In addition, shade opens up entirely different garden uses and sensations that balance sun inspired areas. Come learn why shade is 'hot'!

Topic: The Exotic Plants

Ed Lyon highly advises learning what it takes to provide ideal growing conditions for shade and starting with the durable stalwarts from Made in the Shade: Foundation Plants. Once you feel confident that the conditions are right and the rugged plants are flourishing, you are ready to explore the more exotic selections that may be fussier in their growing requirements. From fancy cobra lilies to shredded umbrella plants, you will be amazed at some of the selections in this category.

Preregistration with prepayment is required by Monday, March 21. Cost for one class is $16 for members and $20 for the general public. Cost for the series is$60 for members and $75 for the general public. Iowa State University students pay 15% off the member rate.
