Alexis Dwyer is a print-maker, and her recent work is with cyanotypes - a photographic printing process that produces imagery in white with an indigo background. From crisp, recognizable outlines to blurred objects that seem to float on fabric, she explores discarded items as re-purposed art.

While biking on trails, walking neighborhoods, and paddling creeks, Dwyer began noticing trash left behind by others. She started collecting discarded items from these outdoor spaces, and explores how it can be re-purposed.

Dwyer begins with creating a cyanotypes, a photographic printing process that produces imagery in white with an indigo background. From crisp, recognizable outlines to blurred objects that seem to float on fabric, the artwork brings new life to these found objects. Tapestries are enhanced with printmaking techniques and hand-sewing objects onto the fabric. Her work transforms trash into tools that create beautiful tapestries, showing the creative and destructive duality between nature and humankind.

Dwyer received her MFA in Integrated Visual Arts from Iowa State University, and a BFA in Photography and Printmaking at Columbia College in Missouri. Her prints have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Columbia, MO.

The exhibit is on display through September 19, 2017
