A living history event that tells the story of former Iowa State student James Herman Banning, who in 1932 became the first African American to fly across the United States. The public is welcome.

Broadway actor Jeantique Oriol plays Banning and Broadway actor Lamar Cheston is his mechanic, Thomas Cox Allen. They'll take the stage and tell their remarkable story.

Banning attended ISU in 1920-1922. He and Allen were the first African American airmen to complete a transcontinental flight. He built his own plane, "Miss Ames," out of the scraps of his mentor's crashed plane. He was instrumental in establishing the Tuskegee Airmen.
