Hector Avalos, a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Iowa State, will speak on the topic of his book The Bad Jesus: The Ethics of New Testament Ethics.

Atheist and Agnostic Society Spring Lecture

Even some atheists who do not believe in Jesus's divine nature agree his teachings emphasize love, nonviolence, and inclusion. Avalos will discuss how the teachings and actions of Jesus, as portrayed in the New Testament, would be antithetical to those enshrined in some of the most widely accepted codes of modern ethics. Such teachings involve family values, violence, and the treatment of animals.
