This free event, to launch Stephens Auditorium's 50th anniversary year, will feature building tours that include an up-close look at "Silver Code", the fiber art piece that is the stage curtain. A program on the stage will begin at 7 p.m. RSVPs are requested.

The evening will include music and a history display in the Celebrity Cafe, activities on the Stephens patio and light refreshments. The program will include speakers and videos, from former President James Hilton discussing development of the site to the IPTV-produced 2005 video, "Building of the Century."

Completed in 1969, Stephens Auditorium, was the first building constructed at the Iowa State Center. On Oct. 15, 2004, the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects selected it as "Building of the Century." Stephens Auditorium was among 300 buildings nominated for the award. The field was narrowed to 125 buildings for consideration. A jury then chose five buildings from each decade, one award winner from each decade and, finally, the top award.

RSVPs to the event are requested by Monday, Sept. 17. Email or call 515-294-3348.
