10-10:30am Presentation to commemorate and reflect on this uniquely Iowan Sport. 10:30-2pm - Collection of stories & photos

6-on-6 Basketball with the Iowa Women's Archives -
10-10:30am presentation - 2018 marks the 25th anniversary of the end of 6-on-6 girls' basketball in Iowa. To commemorate and reflect on this uniquely Iowan sport, the Iowa Women's Archives and Sport Studies faculty in the Department of American Studies at the University of Iowa have collaborated to create a touring exhibition that tells the story of 6-on-6 basketball in Iowa and the girls and women that played it. The Gallery Talk will provide an opportunity to hear about the exhibition from one of its curators and to learn more about the artifacts it features.

10:30-2pm collection of stories and photos - Established in 1992, the Louise Noun - Mary Louise Smith Iowa Women's Archives collects and makes available historical materials that tell the stories of Iowa women from all walks of life. In an effort to broaden its sport-related collections representatives from the Archives and Sport Studies faculty from the University of Iowa Department of American Studies are organizing a collection weekend. Please stop by to tell us your stories, ask questions about donating historical materials, or to donate documents, photographs, or other items related to 6-on-6 basketball or other sporting experiences.
