Abstract: I describe the second-generation B-factory detector, Belle II, and accelerator, SuperKEKB, that have started operating at the KEK Laboratory in Japan. I will present the status of the experiment, including early performance results from 2018 and 2019, and prospects for the future.

Bio: B.Sc. from Toronto, PhD from Princeton, postdoc at Los Alamos working on rare muon decays, faculty position at Virginia Tech in 1987. Worked at KEK since then - Amy experiment at the TRISTAN electron-positron collider, Belle experiment at the KEKB collider, now the second-generation Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. Led the Virginia Tech team that built the barrel muon detector for Belle and Belle II. Co-spokesperson of the Belle Collaboration from 2012 to 2018. Fellow of the American Physical Society.
